Amy Gibson & Craftsy Block of the Month

Happy New Year! One of our favorite things at Annette Tatum is to see the creative ways our fabrics are used. So, we were thrilled to see our new collection of Boho Fabrics featured in the Block of the Month quilting project on Craftsy! This quilting how-to video series is being lead by the very talented Amy Gibson, of the adorable crafting blog, Stichery Dickory Dock. The tutorials are just getting started, so if you have a desire to learn how to quilt, this is an amazing opportunity.

This is a year long monthly video series, and each month Amy will teach 2 new blocks & 1 new skill. By the end of the year, you will have 20 finished blocks, and will learn to add sashing and borders, baste, quilt, and bind, resulting in a lovely quilt, all in our new Boho Fabrics. We love the eclectic look of quilts, especially on a daybed with lots of pillows. We are offering one of Amy’s followers a chance to win a one-of-a-kind neckroll pillow to go with their finished quilt.

DIY Kids Rooms

There are always magical elements in a child’s room that are homemade or one of a kind. To me, the “do it yourself” philosophy of room decor is what gives a room personality. There is nothing better than a gallery made up of your child’s artwork or favorite photographs. Whatever it is that makes you smile or reminds your child of a special accomplishment or event…I say post it. Put it up on the wall for all to see. If you ever wonder what makes a room unique, the answer is found in those who live there.

Framing your child’s art can send a message to all that what your child creates is beautiful and special. It is always nice when the work speaks for itself as an expression of the individual.

Little expressions here and there like a handmade daisy chain add whimsy to the room. For the more ambitious, creating one-of-a-kind, magical canopies can be done easily. Or you can embellish a store bought one with ribbons and other elements to create a lovely statement.

Banners of self expression, added with a little bit of this and that, are what makes a room yours. The pairing of the not so perfect is perfect.

Keep adding to your child’s room as they grow. You are never too young or too old to practice the art of self expression—especially in your own room.

Zebra

Instead of wondering what the “elephant” in the room is… try adding a little “zebra” to your fashion mix or home decor and watch what happens. Zebra is stripe to a perfection. Always a classic and never out of place. Zebra is the perfect way to add a little bit of the wild to your design palette.

Fashion has always been ahead of the curve when it comes to animal skin….

Zebra area rugs are a great statement and other accents in a zebra stripe always seem to work in a room.

Love the idea of zebra on the floor… taking the animal idea to another level. There are so many choices for zebra pattern. Great faux ones exist as well.. so you dont have to “hunt” one down to have one.

Inspiring Rooms for Play

To me, childhood is all about play. As adults, we get busy with the day to day and forget to embrace the child inside all of us. You are never too old to play, and the creative spirit is always alive no matter what age. Creating a special space where imagination can be nurtured is what “playrooms” are all about.

Color, mix and match—anything goes in the mind of a child. So why not find inspiration in the free flowing artistic mind of your child? Nothing needs to make sense, and the space can be ever evolving and growing…just like you and your child.
