I am honored to be an invited guest at Annette’s stunning blog today. When asked to publish a post about Annette’s beautiful book The Well-Dressed Home, Fashionable Design Inspired by Your Personal Style, I knew instantly that I wanted to explore the premise for myself:
Personality is key when developing your wardrobe, and the same is true when creating a unique decorating scheme for your home.
As a teenager, I was very proud of my bedroom. I recall feeling how the space was an extension of my personality; that someone could walk in and know it was mine. While my mom had picked out bedding and curtains, I was given free reign to hang posters and display collections. Whether it was a poster of dreamy Robby Benson, my plaid Preppie calendar, or the pink and green Sex Pistols album cover: it was me. Somehow, these attributes still apply: a mix of sweet, practical and fun.
In the Design Style Guide part of Annette’s book, styles are broken down into lavishly presented categories of Romantic, Couture, Classic, Casual, Bohemian, Retro, Resort, Modern, Eclectic, Vintage, and Eco. It was fun to assign a mix for myself which appears to be Romantic-Casual-Vintage … for now!
When I scouted for clothing in the colors of my home office (aka the Girlie Office), the accent colors of pinks and aquas were an easy find. However, no yellow: not a shirt, not a shoe, not an earring. I’ve always felt sallow in yellow yet I am very happy surrounded by the sunny hue.
The scheme in the dining room and kitchen are similar to the Girlie Office: pale with bright; this time mint paired with bright shades of blue, red and raspberry.
The living room is all about tones of grays and blues with a bit of white and occasional sparkle. A coordinating outfit was quickly located as I tend to wear quite a bit of gray and blue with a little sparkle.
Shoes are always flats, thanks to my style icon the Skipper doll.
And comfort is always a priority in both my fashion and furnishing choices.
Thank you to Annette for her generosity and for inspiring this very enjoyable and educational play session!

Elyse, I loved the guest post. How fun to see how your clothing matches your home. I know mine doesn’t. I wonder what I need to do to make that happen. I bet I could use a copy of that book!
Hugs,
Penny
I love the idea of finding your style by looking in your closet. I think I have “no style”. My closet is all black and denim! Though I do have a little pink thrown in too.
I love the picture with the pink sweater thrown over the chair. It does say Elyse and Cottage to me!
hello!
i had so much fun playing … i mean … assembling this post.
thank you for the opportunity to share, annette!

Elyse I love all these pictures! My absolute fave would be the photo of your livingroom. I LOVE your window with roses in the window. Your couch is such a gorgeous blue. And that bistro chair…I must find one! xoxoxo

I really love your photography and your poetic posts! Thanks for the opportunity to win this delightful book.
I love the idea of looking through your closet for your design style. My favourite picture above is the one with the pink sweater. Probably because I have five pink sweaters from soft baby pink to bright pink like the one in the picture ~ I think this is fabulous
the post was so FUN!!!! i love the pics of your home elyse. and your clothes are pretty cute too ; )
What an interesting theory! I am going to have to think through my own house…which eclectic and a little funky…and so are my clothes.
Very good exercise and thank you for your good advice on clearing out the clutter!

oh… i almost forgot… the book looks SO good and i love all your photos… but the one with the chuck taylors… thats my fav!
Well I like the photo with your name bracelet, and the flower shoes! I love all the colors in that photo!
Blessings,
Rhonda
Nice concept, but unlike you I love yellow and our home is in yellow and white throughout, trimmed with American white oak and floors of marble in an aqua-grey-green.
I even hunted down an espresso machine in yellow from The Tea and Coffee Emporium for the kitchen.
Only part of my wardrobe matches the décor, but then I only spend part of my time at home!
Thank you for sharing you photos, which are nicely presented.
I love the idea of having beautiful clothing as part of the interior design scheme. Unfortunately I need a new wardrobe of clothes! I do have a gorgeous little coat that belonged to my daughter when she was 3 which I think would look really cute on a childs manequin. I like the first photo with the rosy chair and the pink cardi….so pretty. I would love to be entered into the draw for this beautiful book. I have signed up for newsletters and liked on facebook. Many thanks for the opportunity to enter, love Linda x
Oh Elyse! Great job on the guest blogging. Your living room has to be my fav. It just looks sooooo yummy and comfy.
I love those pink flowered flats or they could be heels whatever they are they are so cute and I Love how you photographed them with the bracelet on the table there. I wish that i could make my house look so cute!
